Integrations
Slack
Connect Slack so Sands can read your channels and threads and post updates from the web app. The same connection lets your team mention @Sands in Slack.
What it does
| Capability | What Sands does |
|---|---|
| Read | Lists channels and reads recent messages and threads in channels the Sands app has joined. |
| Send | Posts a message to a channel or a person, as the Sands app. |
| React | Adds an emoji reaction to a message. |
| Answer in Slack | Replies when someone mentions @Sands or messages it directly. See Sands in Slack. |

Setup
Install Sands in your workspace
Open Settings → Apps → Slack and choose Install Slack. Slack asks you to approve the Sands app for the workspace. Depending on your workspace settings, an admin may need to approve it.
Link your Slack account
Once the app is installed, each person links their own Slack account with Link your Slack account. Linking is what lets Sands know a Slack message is from you, and use your connected tools and credits.
Add Sands to channels
Sands can only read and post in channels it has joined. In a channel, type
/invite @Sands. Private channels work the same way.
How sending works
Ask Sands to post one message to one channel or person and it sends right away in Automatically approve mode, then tells you where it went. These always ask first:
- A message to more than one channel or person.
- A message with @here or @channel.
- Every message, when you use Manually approve.
Sands checks the channel or person exists before sending, so you never approve a message that cannot be delivered. Sands may write the message for you from what it read; ask to see a draft first if you want to review the wording.
Sending is permanent
A sent Slack message cannot be unsent by Sands. Declined messages are never sent later.
Good to know
- Sands reads channels it has joined. It does not search all of Slack.
- Sands reads top-level messages and the threads it is asked about.
- Messages are posted by the Sands app, not by your personal account.
- Disconnect from Settings → Apps → Slack. Disconnecting unlinks you; the app stays in the workspace for others.
